On Saturday, March 9, 2019, the inaugural St. Mary's Academy Lecture Series opened with Nobel Prize winner, Dr. Mario Capecchi.
Dr. Mario Capecchi won the Nobel Prize for his work on so called “knockout mice” - genetically mutated mice created using gene targeting. You can read more about Dr. Capecchi and his work HERE.
In his lecture, Dr. Capecchi shared the story of his research, his path to becoming a scientist in spite of his having to overcome seemingly insurmountable odds as a temporarily orphaned child in WWII Italy, and finally, his "trip to Stockholm".
