Assignment Overview

Final Integumentary System Project

You and 2-3 other people will work together on creating a final project that shows me that you understand the basics of the integumentary system.

First, start creating your artwork. You are creating the three layers of the integumentary system using colored paper. It can be in 2-dimension or 3-dimension. Your “layers of the skin” artwork should include ALL of the following: (BE CREATIVE)

  1. Epidermis
  2. Melanocytes
  3. Dermis
    1. Blood vessels
    2. Nerves
    3. Hair follicles
    4. Sebaceous glands
    5. Sudoriferous glands: Eccrine and Apocrine
  4. Hypodermis
  5. Adipose tissue (fat)

Next. Choose your theme.

  1. Sun protection and how it works.
    1. Sun’s harmful rays and how it affects the layers of the skin
    2. Acne treatment and Sebaceous glands. How are they related? What happens if you have overactive sebaceous glands?
    3. The process of exfoliation and how it happens naturally. How you can speed it up? What layers of the skin are affected?
    4. Color of your skin: Tell me more about the melanocyte.
    5. Skin disorders. Choose one. How does it affect the skin? Is it treatable?
    6. Tanning beds and the negative impacts it has on the skin. What are the risks?
    7. Eccrine vs. Apocrine glands
    8. First degree/2nddegree/ 3rddegree burn
    9. Have another idea? Put it here.

Create a script. The script should include:

  1. A description of the layers of the skin. Each theme will need to address at least one of the layers of the skin; epidermis (avascular), dermis, or hypodermis (stores fat); In the video you MUST include your drawing/creation of your skin. You WILL be marked down if you don’t use your own artwork.
  2. In the video tie the theme that you chose in with the artwork that you have created. This should be creative and fun.
  3. Make sure that the first thing I see in your video is a title and who is in your group. J

Finally, create a video that ties in the theme that you chose and the artwork that you created. Think Crash Course or DIY projects. J  You can always do a voice over or write the words at the bottom of the video. You can use iMovie or Spark Video (or any other video creating platforms that you know of) . Please NO longer than 3 minutes.
